Creative Monday!

So, I didn't get any sewing done for this first edition of Creative Monday. I've been sick...so I decided to do something quick and easy. And what does one do when they have a little time and a lot of leftover construction paper?? Why, holiday decorations, of course! :D

Sorry for the blurry pictures, it's just not light enough in my living room right now.

Also, you can always click on the pictures for a larger version.

Closeups:
I made a little star garland:

Some 3-d standup paper stars

And probably my favorite, some cute little paper lanterns

I plan to make a little more to complete my decorations, but I thought this was a fun start!

All of these came from Martha Stewart. Click here for some other cute ideas for the 4th!

Our silly walk

Pyper and I walk every day right now. The weather is perfect, and I'm not sure that we'll be able to walk so much once her new sibling gets here.

Anyway, while we were walking on Monday, I looked to my right and saw this silliness in one of the bushes along the sidewalk:

Some goofball had placed some flamingos in the bush

and Easter eggs under it (although they were placed in the middle of the bush by the time I got back to take pictures)

Pyper thought it was just wonderful "Eeeessser eggs, Jenn! Eeeeesser eggs!" and it made me laugh. I don't know if this pricey little neighborhood has some naughty pixies in it or what! :P

Also, as we were walking near the river, we saw this:

Unfortunately, that's all that's left...but on Monday, it was a sweet little handwritten note that simply said "Do what makes you happy :) "

I was sad that someone tore it down, because it made my day.

Creative Challenge

I've been discussing my creative slump with others in the same boat and I've decided to start a challenge to try to motivate myself. I'm always happier when I'm doing something creative. I just need to get back on track!

So. My challenge is this: to post something creative every Monday. For me, it will probably be crafty related, but it could be artwork or poetry or photography...whatever your creative outlet is.

Anyone else wanna play along? There's no pressure. If you miss a week, it's no big deal. I just thought it would be fun to encourage one another. I'd be happy to link to other people's Creative Challenge posts too! Also, if there's another day of the week that's better for you, just let me know!

We'll begin a week from today. My goal for this week is to get the sewing room back in order so that I can get back on track!

Are we having fun yet?

Ahhh, the joys of renting an old house!

On Wednesday, we came home to find that our sprinklers were malfunctioning (we're on irrigation sprinklers, so they run for 12 hours, once a week). We think that over saturated the ground, and flooded the basement. Awesome.

It didn't flood a ton, but there was water standing all through the storage area, under the hot water heater and air conditioning/heating unit and through to our bathroom. Thankfully, it didn't get our bedroom, but it soaked the carpeting and tiled floor. Loooovely.

We vacuumed up the standing water with a shop vac and we've had fans going on the carpeted areas since then. We're still waiting for our landlord to take care of things, which is frustrating...but what more can you do?

The good thing is that it has motivated me to clean a lot!!

Seriously?

So.

Pathetic.

Where did we find this creature? :P

Last of the felt food project!

Bacon!! Made with two pieces of brown felt, with some pink sandwiched in between. I did a blanket stitch around the outside and a backstitch down the middle. Then I cut out the part in between the backstitching to expose the pink part.

Juice and milk. They look a little wonky on their own, but they look ok in the cups.

Everything together!

Aaaaand that's the end of the felt food for now. :)

About Me

Boise, Idaho, United States
To live content with small means; to seek elegance rather than luxury; and refinement rather than fashion; to be worthy, not respectable; and wealthy, not rich; to study hard, think quietly, talk gently, act frankly; to listen to stars and birds, to babes and sages, with open heart; to bear all cheerfully, do all bravely, await occasion, hurry never; in a word, to let the spiritual, unbidden and unconscious grow up through the common. This is to be my symphony. William Henry Channing
